Double-Barrel Bubbles

This single vineyard Riesling was born from the first vines planted in Southern Tasmania and is a homage to the dry, textural Rieslings of Austria. Expect lovely green citrus fruit characters on the nose and a fleshy palate with mineral like intensity.

Muse Riesling 2017

Leading with big, juicy pear character, our 2019 Pinot Gris also exudes golden delicious apple and plenty of zesty bounce to offset the sweetness. White florals and Turkish spice present nicely on the nose and carry gently to the palate, while the wild fermentation brings a luscious, soft mouthfeel and great textural length. Pairs beautifully with salads or soft cheese.

Muse Pinot Gris 2019

Creamy, pale-gold to look at, this one continues the tradition of super-fresh Sauvignons from Moorilla. The nose is clean linen and morning dew, while the palate boasts celery leaf, lime zest, cucumber and gooseberry—green and vibrant without any grassiness or pungency. The finish lifts nicely on the back of zingy lime and a lingering aftertaste of white stonefruit. Perfect to sip over a platter of cheese and charcuterie. ABV: 13.8%

Muse Sauvignon 2018

An unassuming, very pale yellow hue belies a fresh, energetic vintage. While the initial bouquet is restrained, there’s a pleasant savouriness (and nothing shrill or grapy). The palate expands—more of the same folded into a bright acidity and faint, almost flowery notes. Finishes medium-long, with satisfying depth and lingering complexity.

Muse Chardonnay 2018

Fresh, verdant and refreshing. Flickering yellow and green in the glass, our 2018 Sauvignon Blanc welcomes you with crunchy green salad aromas: cucumber, green capsicum and new asparagus. Then to the fruit pop palate of cantaloupe, honeydew and passionfruit. The fruit sweetness is balanced with pleasing acidity and intensity, and a satisfying medium finish. A great value bottle.

Stoney Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2018

The Lady returns. Originally made by Peter Althaus as a love letter to his beloved wife Ruth, Lady A was first released in 1996. Since then, Domaine A devotees have awaited the release of what James Halliday called ‘the finest oaked sauvignon blanc’ he ever tasted. As per usual, expect elegance and texture (whereas most sauvignon blancs lead with fruit and acid), aged for three years before release (most Sauvignon Blancs are released young). As with past vintages, the 2017 Lady A takes her cues from Bordeaux. Fermented in French oak barriques, matured on fine lees for twelve months, and then rested in the cellar until ready for release. Ten years on lees and another couple in the cellar could sometimes cause a wine to lose a bit of lustre. Not so here, with the St. Matthias Vineyard fruit being given full voice in a vigorous, spectacularly refreshing sparkling. Cloth Label Late Disgorged 2008

Luminous, luxurious and layered, the 2015 Cloth White is a promise of spring and spice. A bewitching lemon-gold in the glass, the bouquet suggests chai, cinnamon, honeysuckle nectar and peaches, with deeper notes of apricot beyond. The palate balances medium acidity and tannins with an astonishing spread of texture across the tongue, bringing grapefruit pith, cashews and lime skin character before a refreshing finish. This vintage is a touch lighter than the last, showing many of the qualities you'd normally see in an LDR, with a bit more character—a Medium Dry Red, perhaps. Red-maroon hues on pouring foreshadow the nose: tomato leaf, blood plum and cardamom. The palate boasts a beautiful acidity, and the flavours perfectly straddle the blend of lighter and heavier grape varieties, with fruit-of-the-forest berries and blackcurrants giving way to raisins and dried cranberries. A shining example of the unique terroir of the St Matthias vineyard that'll pair well with Middle Eastern cuisine—or anything with a bit of salt and bite.

From the deep, red-purple colour onward, this is an alluring, elegant beast. Muse Syrah 2016

Rich, deep and dark-maroon to look at, with an intriguing, fruits-and-beasts-of-the-forest nose that runs the gamut from mahogany and sous-bois to dark chocolate-berry sponge cake and a slight, almost animalistic hint of musk, the 2015 Muse Cabernet Sauvignon is a thoroughly intriguing wine. On the palate, the tannins are dense and complex (promising a very long life), with lingering sour cherry, dried berries, and shades of cappucino (plenty of chocolate sprinkles) topped by a slightly-above-medium acidity. Pair it with something spicy in its youth or give it some time to open up in the cellar.

Muse Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

In keeping with their philosophy, Domaine A don’t always make a pinot noir, but the 2014 vintage was too good to pass up. Big, bright ruby in the glass, the pour rewards with fresh red cherry and a suggestion of tart baked rhubarb. The mid-palate brings a wave of black forest cake and some savoury spice, with a medium body with plenty of flesh. Suggestions of tar and a soft minerality round things out. Open a bottle with anything rich and decadent; crumbly cheddar, rabbit stew, pheasant or coq au vin.

Domaine A Pinot Noir 2014

Deep Bordeaux-red in colour, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon celebrates the terroir of Stoney Vineyard. Expect mixed spice on the nose with suggestions of new leather and warm earth, and a christmas cake palate laden with cranberries, blackcurrants, raisins and prunes. There's fantastic structure and acidity, too. The 2016 has plenty of medium-term cellaring potential and will go down a treat with rich meats, mushroom and truffles.

Stoney Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

A fresh, vital take on the classic characteristics of Domaine A, this one leads with lively notes of tomato skins and lily-rose on the nose ('like Nonna's house on relish-making day,' according to some), before a palate of lively berry character (raspberries lead the charge) and an elegant, herbaceous, basil-driven pepperiness. A long finish leaves lingering suggestions of fruit and blackberry pie. The structure is excellent, and the wine will hold up brilliantly after a few years in the cellar.

Domaine A Petit 'a' Cabernet 2013

A wine of absolute dedication. Entirely hand-picked from old estate vines, only the finest parcels of fruit are selected for inclusion in the rigorous, uncompromising small-batch winemaking process: open vat fermentation, regular racking, hand-plunging and extended time on lees. Maturation takes place over thirty-six months in 100% new French oak barriques, followed by another four years (or more) resting in the cellar before being assessed for release.An impressive blend of Bordeaux varieties, the 2010 vintage is the best of both worlds—youthful yet old school in style. Currants and candied raspberry on the nose. Fruit cake, eucalypt, and vanilla oak notes develop into cherry cola on the palate, before a liquorice and dark chocolate finish. Settle in for fine tannins and cocoa moreishness—this is a deep, ruby red with a luxurious linger.
