Pretty, pale ruby in the glass (with violet tinges at the edge), this is a juicy, finely-structured vintage, ripe with berry and classic shiraz notes (white pepper, saddle-leather, mulberries and faint spearmint). The palate is medium-weight, with delicate, toasted oak-spice over savoury hints (tomato, olive, salted liquorice) and a round, warm back-palate.
Syrah off the St Matthias vineyard, which is on the Tamar River in the north of Tasmania. Fruit aromas of dark plum and black cherry fruits with hints of black pepper, leather, tobacco, dark spice, olive tapenade, cedar and some violet and stone fruit top notes. Nicely poised on the palate, a meaty edge cruises in and the overall lasting impression is of a harmonious, calm wine with an elegant gait and a fine, granitic tannin structure, mineral-rich acidity lending drive and frame. Super drinking.
