A blend of every white variety grown at our St. Matthias vineyard (plus some pinot noir), the Cloth Label White is made to showcase the strengths of each variety while staying balanced. Fermented for a short time on skins—giving tannin, palate richness and aromatic complexity—the 2017 vintage is an utterly unique wine, with a floral, luxuriously spiced nose (backed with some sweet citrus and a hint of tart salinity) and a full, rich, multi-faceted palate of crisp white fruit and citrus. Medium-high acidity bodes very well for a long life in the cellar.
A fruit salad of every white variety grown on the St Matthias vineyard: pinot gris, gewürztraminer, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc and riesling all get a look in, plus a pinch of pinot noir. It makes for a deeply coloured and enchanting wine with plenty of texture and sapid mineral twang. Straw in the glass with a cacophony of aromas and flavours, in a good way. Citrus, tropical fruits, crushed stone, dried honey, rose petals, soft spice, yellow plum, dried hay, wildflowers, chicken stock, lemon curd and whey. Super complex, calm and steely. A captivating drink.
